Partnership for better health

Transforming healthcare requires more than scientific excellence alone. It demands collaboration between researchers, clinicians, policymakers, patients, industry and communicators to ensure that innovation reaches the people who need it most. Across Europe, health research is delivering remarkable advances in prevention, diagnosis, treatment and care. This magazine celebrates those achievements and highlights the partnerships that turn promising discoveries into real-world impact.

Whether developing new vaccines, improving diagnostics, harnessing artificial intelligence, advancing rehabilitation technologies or creating more sustainable healthcare systems, good health research is built on strong partnerships. It’s a relatively simple concept – meaningful progress depends on the right people and organisations working together towards a common goal.

It is an approach that Europe has refined over decades through its research and innovation programmes. By bringing together universities, hospitals, research institutes, healthcare providers, SMEs, industry partners and policymakers, Europe has created a world-leading ecosystem capable of addressing some of society’s most pressing health challenges.

As preparations continue for the next Framework Programme (FP10), health research stands at the forefront of Europe’s ambitions. Ageing populations, rising healthcare costs, workforce shortages, chronic disease, growing inequalities in access to care and the continuing threat of future pandemics all demand innovative solutions. The EU is rightly focused on these challenges, but meeting them effectively will require not only excellent science but also effective collaboration and the ability to translate research into practice.

The projects featured throughout this edition demonstrate exactly what can be achieved when expertise is brought together. Researchers, clinicians, engineers, behavioural scientists, public health experts, patient groups and healthcare innovators are working collectively to improve prevention, personalise treatment, strengthen healthcare systems and ultimately improve quality of life for citizens across Europe and beyond.

At Insight Media, we are proud to support this ambition. For more than 15 years, we have worked alongside some of Europe’s leading research and innovation projects, helping them communicate their work, demonstrate impact and engage the audiences that matter most. In health research, effective communication is particularly important. The journey from scientific discovery to patient benefit often depends on engaging healthcare professionals, policymakers, regulators, healthcare providers, industry stakeholders and the wider public.

Partnership sits at the heart of everything we do and every project we support becomes a partner. We work closely with consortia to understand their objectives, identify their target audiences and develop communication, dissemination and exploitation strategies that deliver measurable outcomes. Our role is not simply to share information, but to help research achieve the visibility, engagement and uptake needed to maximise impact.

Bringing this magazine together is itself an example of that partnership approach. Each article is the result of close collaboration with project coordinators, researchers, clinicians and communication teams across Europe and further afield. Together, we transform complex scientific work into accessible, engaging stories that can be understood and appreciated by a wider audience.

But our support extends far beyond the printed page. Projects featured in this publication benefit from a whole range of targeted activities designed to extend the reach of their research. These include distribution through carefully selected European events, targeted outreach to specialist and mainstream media, tailored project publications, digital campaigns and strategic stakeholder engagement activities that help projects connect with the audiences most relevant to their goals. We work hard to ensure communication becomes impact. In health research, reaching the right audience can be just as important as generating the research itself. A breakthrough innovation cannot improve lives if healthcare professionals are unaware of it. A new policy recommendation cannot influence decision-making if it never reaches policymakers. A promising technology cannot achieve uptake if potential adopters are not engaged.

Recognising this challenge, Insight Media has developed a new way for organisations to access specialist research communication expertise.

Insight Access provides research organisations, universities, institutes and projects with direct access to Europe’s leading research communication specialists at Insight Media, through a flexible, embedded support model.

Rather than commissioning individual activities in isolation, organisations gain access to a dedicated team capable of supporting strategic communication, dissemination, stakeholder engagement, content creation, digital communications, media relations, exploitation planning and impact generation as an integrated service.

For health research organisations, this approach offers a particularly powerful advantage. Research environments are increasingly complex and fast-moving. Communication teams are often under pressure to demonstrate impact, support multiple projects simultaneously and engage a diverse range of audiences. Insight Access provides additional capacity, specialist expertise and strategic guidance precisely when it is needed, helping organisations strengthen their communication activities without the need to expand internal teams. The result is a more consistent, effective and impactful approach to research communication.

Alongside Insight Access, Insight Media continues to work as a full consortium partner within Horizon Europe and other major research programmes. From proposal development through to project implementation, we lead communication, dissemination and exploitation activities designed to maximise visibility, engagement and long-term impact.

As European funding programmes place increasing emphasis on impact, exploitation and measurable outcomes, effective communication has never been more important. Strong dissemination strategies are no longer an optional extra; they are a critical component of successful research and innovation.

Our approach combines evidence-based audience mapping, strategic planning, targeted stakeholder engagement and high-quality content creation to ensure that research reaches the people who can benefit from it most.

Whether producing project films, developing websites, creating podcasts, delivering social media campaigns, organising events or supporting exploitation activities, our focus remains the same: helping excellent research achieve meaningful impact.

It is the partnership between researchers and clinicians, innovators and healthcare providers, policymakers and practitioners and scientific excellence and effective communication. Most importantly, it is the partnership between research and society itself. It is through these relationships that we really see how important partnerships are and why we relish being part of these stories.

We hope this edition has provided not only a fascinating insight into the health innovations shaping our future, but also a clear demonstration of how collaboration, communication and engagement can help transform research into better health outcomes for all. That is partnership for better health in action.
